Stabilize market supply to avoid skyrocketing and falling

On November 12, 2020, the BOPET Special Committee of China Plastics Association held a 12-micron professional group meeting in Shaoxing, Zhejiang. 24 chairman and general managers of 15 companies in the industry attended the meeting.

The meeting launched a special discussion on the recent shortage of ordinary polyester film supply.

Director Yi Zhilong of the special committee first shared with you the statistics of industrial production capacity, market supply and demand, import and export since 2005, and notified the release of new industrial production capacity in 2019-2022. It analyzes the background of several waves of industry development peaks and troughs from the industry development cycle and industry product structure.

Discuss with the CEOs of member companies on the sudden shortage of supply in the film market this year:

1. The 2020-2021 new line production plan is delayed due to the epidemic (at least half a year), and the new production capacity released in 2019-2020 is basically medium-thick and above film, and the 12-micron ordinary film product market has almost no increase;

2. The causes of the global epidemic, the increase in packaging film consumption and the transfer of some deep-processed products to China for production, caused a concentrated outbreak of demand in some areas;

3. The export volume of the industry this year will be reduced by about 15% compared to 2019. On the one hand, the global epidemic has led to a decrease in foreign demand; on the other hand, it is due to domestic shortages and serious upside down of domestic and foreign product prices;

4. Recently, the orders of enterprises in the industry are basically more than 40 days, and some even reach 90 days, unable to supply in time, and the phenomenon of enterprises raising quotations and rejecting orders has increased;

5. The contradiction between market supply and demand is temporary. Following the release of new production capacity, the market supply of 12-micron products will gradually ease in the second half of next year.

During the discussion, the participating companies put forward relevant suggestions:

1. Industry enterprises can appropriately adjust the product structure of the production line according to market demand. In the near future, they may increase the proportion of 12-micron general-purpose films, do their best to ensure a stable supply in the market, and maintain good communication with customers to gain customer understanding;

2. To avoid skyrocketing and plummeting, pay special attention to avoiding blindly following the trend of investment after skyrocketing. According to incomplete statistics, the new production capacity planned for subsequent construction is completely released, and the market digestion cycle may be more than 10 years;

3. Suggestions for export: industry export companies need to maintain their original customer relationships and prepare for the release of new production capacity;

4. For the subsequent release of new production capacity, participating companies suggest: orderly release production capacity and maintain the sustained, healthy and stable development of the market;

5. Under the current tight supply of products in the industry, the industry and enterprises need to be prepared for danger in times of peace, do a good job in the research of product application areas, and each professional group will share the latest developments in the professional field during group activities.
